Hi,
We have procomm plus running on a laptop with Windows 2000. Want to upgrade to windows 7. Can someone direct me to where I could get, download, a copy of Procomm plus for windows 7 or even Procomm plus 4.8, I see that some people say that procomm 4.8 will work on windows 7 if you do a coustom download. The windows 7 version would be better. I am hoping that these versions do in fact exist or still exist.

Thanks

There is no Windows 7 version of Procomm. I have a Windows 7 laptop and Procomm Plus 4.8 works fine for me.

Procomm Plus 4.8 works fine on Windows 7 as long as you make a small modification on the folder permissions to allow full access when saving log files etc. Let me know if you require any more assistance.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

Thanks for the response, I may get back to you if we decide to go with 4.8 on windows 7.

We were able to use Procomm Plus 4.8 on Windows 7 32-bit, but when my employer decided to standardize on Windows 7 64-bit (with a fair bit of administrative policy to lock down the system security), we could no longer get it function. IT management would not budge on their security stance. Part of the issue for us was that on firm-provided computers, end-users were no longer "local administrators" over their own computer.

The sad truth is that Procomm Plus is old and no longer sold/supported/updated. Windows XP SP2 was the last officially supported version of Windows to use with Procomm Plus. It was/is some fantastic software, but sooner or later, it will be more hassle to keep running than looking for a replacement.

In the end, we had to migrate to SecureCRT as an alternative. It works well enough for 98% of our day to day needs. It supports some scripting, VT220/VT320 emulation, upload/download files, access the admin console for Meridian Mail.

On the whole, SecureCRT should be considered as an alternative in some situations, especially if you are too invested in Procomm already.
