Hi,

Have just started a new job with a comms provider in Ireland and am having problems connecting to a Nortel Meridan test system with procomm terminal so am VERY new to this area. The port opens fine when I connect and I can see some info appear on the terminal window but I can't seem to type instructions to do anything. The word 'MNEMONIC' keeps appearing so am doing something wrong obviously. I am connecting via the usb port from a windows10 laptop which goes in to the serial port (com2 - baud rate 9600) of the nortel via a modem elimantor. Help please.

Thanks. J

It's been a few years since I've used procom but I do remember that the Nortel connection was very speed specific. There is an Aspect section here at TEK-TIP's that may be helpful to scan since that's the scripting language procom uses.

If you are using TTY port 1 or 2, then it might have defaulted to 1200 on an old Meridian.
Promm Plus 4.7 should work on most Windows but Windows 10 can cause the computer to crash when logging off.

MNEMONIC" is not a bad thing. That is what you would see on a hospitality system background terminal. Hopefully you are also getting a "." prompt.
What happens if you enter
.PR OP
?
Did you try entering LOGI?

Thanks for your help so far. To reply to the last post from StanleySteamer I'm not even sure if the login/pwd I've used have logged me in because even if I enter garbage for the login/pwd I still see the same result. (see attached). It won't let me type PR OP cos when I hit the space key the cursor jumps to the next line and in fact jumps to the following line when I hit any character really. Thanks

The OVL428 means that the username/password is invalid, do you know what version it is on?

Can you press and hold the "Ctrl" and press the P D T keys?. If so, it should ask you for a password.
It's best to look on line for the default ones. Once logged in OK key in sl1version to see the system type at the > prompt.
