Hello,

I tried to upgrade a customer with a 5 slot carrier.
Replacing a ACS R3 to ACS R8 processor 509.

I could not get the 509 to come up. NO GREEN light.
If I plug it in with just power cord it works ok.

This has happen twice to me.

Is the beige 5 slot carrier not to be used with the new
processor 509 ?

I have called the Co we bought it from, (product support)
they had no answers for me HELP !!!!!!!!!!

There is a fuse in the 5-slot carrier. Peel back the plastic cover from near the power switch, and see if you can locate it.

Maybe I should have said that the old ACS R7 works ok in the
same slot ?
Are you saying the 509 uses a different fuse, power connections in the middle 5 carrier slot.

Thanks TTT, you have help be in other forums

Well, if the old processor lights up in the center slot, but the new R8 does not, and the R8 lights up with the power cord connected to the back of it, the fuse in the 5-slot carrier is not the issue. I would guess the new processor is not seating fully in the carrier.

I have tried to reseat it 4 times.

I really think there is something going on here that is not
the BASIC problems we all go thru with the partners.

This has happened to me on two systems so far.

Googling I keep coming up that the 5 slot carrier has to be a
103F or greater ???

Time to order a new 5-slot carrier. The older 5-slot carriers do not work with the R7 and R8 processors.

I have had this happen several times with processor upgrades. AVAYA tells me that it does not happen, but yet it continues.

THe good news is that the carrier is less than $200.

THANK YOU very much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Out 20 people so far that I have asked you were the only one that agreed and had the same problem.

I spent 4 hours last night googleing and reading at avaya site.

There is got to be someone else that had this problem!!!!!

Thank you again

If it turns out the cabinet is the problem, check out Metroline @ Metrolinedirect.com they have the Partner ACS 5 Slot Carrier Release 2.0 cabinets for New: $119.00 Like New: $79.00. Also the new cabinets have better module spacing for better ventilation and cooling, so the stuff should last longer.

Sometimes I wonder what Avaya is doing with these types of reports. This seems kinda similar to the modem issue in a way.
