Running CR v 10 with ODBC database.

I am trying to do an AR report to help identify customers over their limit.

If
Total owed in AR table + total owed in pendingorders table > credit limit (AR table)
display.

In order to do this I have to run a subreport on the pendingorders table and return the owed amount to the main report. I have the subreport in a customer summary line A, then use the returned value in summary line B (otherwise won't pick up the returned value). Everything works fine until I added the suppress lines when creditlimit<Total AR+pending.

I think the issue is that CR is processing the SUPPRESS before it does the subreport, but with a number of 'whileprintingrecords' added in I still cannot get around the issue.

Thanks for trying to understand my dilemma.

You don't say what section you are trying to suppress. The subreport must be in a section above the section you are trying to suppress for the shared variable to be available in the suppress formula.

Thanks, MrBillSC.

Yes, that seems to be my problem...I'm trying to suppress the results of the subreport from showing (i don't want to see all the customers! - only those over their limit).

How can I run the subreport without actually displaying it? It seems any way that I try to hide it - it won't even run.

Any ideas?

You can suppress all sections WITHIN the subreport, then go to format->subreport->subreport tab->check "suppress blank subreport". Then also go into the section expert and format the section that the sub is in to "suppress blank section". Do not suppress the section or the subreport object, however.

Thanks lbass.

Hmmmm...the subreport returns a dollar value in a shared variable that is used in the main report to determine whether to suppress.

I don't know while IN the subreport if I'll need to suppress in main report or not.

You can suppress as I indicated and the shared variable will still work. The sub should be in its own section above the ones you want to conditionally suppress. If you follow the steps, the section will not appear at all, but the shared variable will have a value.

Yes, lbass, you are right. I actually had to work around even a little more based on my data, but with it and your key input it works. Thanks so much for reiterating.

Now, off to post a question to fix the remaining part of my issue!
