Having trouble viewing a movie made on Pc, on Mac - .swf doesn't play well. Is it best to convert to Mac projector, how to you translate the file type?

Hi,

I'm having exactly the same problem. To view on a Mac with the standalone player, you are supposed to publish the movie as a Macintosh projector (.hqx) then run that file through a binary converter like BinHex.

I downloaded a version of BinHex from
But although it seemed to convert it ok, the finished file wouldn't play on a Mac. You might want to try this solution anyway, you may have better luck!

If you find a better solution, please let me know!

Today I finally found a method for this!

Part 1.

In Publish Settings, choose to publish your movie as a Macintosh Projector. The .hqx file that your PC produces will not run on a MAC. You need to have a common link between the PC and MAC. The program that I use to create this link is StuffIt. You can get a PC version free from their website
If you have StuffIt installed when you create your .hqx file, you'll notice that the file appears as a StuffIt icon.

Burn the .hqx file to a CD.

Part 2.

You need access to a MAC with a CD burner for this part. The MAC must also have StuffIt installed (the MAC I tested this on already had it, I think it's the standard but you can get a free MAC version from the website as well).

Drag the .hqx file onto the desktop to create a hard drive copy. You cannot convert the file from the CD as it will try to write an archive copy to the source.

Drag the hard drive copy onto the StuffIt icon. StuffIt will automatically convert the file. You will see the familiar pink diamond icon appear on the desktop with the same filename as your original .hqx (hooray!).

Delete the .hqx version from the MAC to avoid confusion.

The MAC I was using wasn't mine, so I burned the new file to a CD and kept it as the master copy. I can make duplicates from my PC.

Hope this helps!
