I don't know if this a solution that you are looking for but one option is to change RS to space and then manually check for and track you newlines. So that each word will be a record and can be written back out in equivalent line sizes, (I believe...speculation), by setting ORS to space and manually writing out newlines in the appropriate place based on where you found them on the input. I must admit, (warn), that I have done something similar but not precisely this, so, as I mentioned above, this is speculation. I will test this but not for a couple of days, sorry.<br>
