We are having some very strange problems with word on some of our desktops and not sure if this is common or not. We are using word 2000 svc pack 1. The 2 most common problems are this:

1. Whenever a user will select a few words to italicize, the whole document becomes italicized and the same happens when you bold it.
2. Whenever we try to bold something that is in outline format, everything but the last number gets bold.

I have ran the lates virus scans and found nothing. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,
Ryan

I did what you suggested and it's still doing it. Here is another example:

1. The user typed 4 lines of text. She selected the 3rd line and click bold. The whole document became bold.

2. On the same 4 lines, she highlighted them all and clicked on the outline button and only the first 3 outlined.

Thanks,
Ryan

This is a damaged document. Follow DreamBoat's suggestion if it's happening to all new documents.

To remove the corruption from an existing document:
ctrl-a (select all)
shift <- (shift and the left arrow on your keyboard - will unselect the last character in your document - this is a hidden formatting mark)
ctrl-c (copy all that is selected)
ctrl-n (this will open a new document)
ctrl-v (paste into new document)

The new document should now be cleaned of the problem (as long as your normal template is undamaged). Unfortunately, you will have to apply any document formating that didn't copy over (margins, headers, footers, page sizes, ect.)
