I purchased my phone system used. I also purchased the winspm software. The system is working (technically) but i need to program it. Here is my problem I get an error message on the computer saying that a connection could not be made.

1. how do i verify that the previous owner did not change the admin port?
2. how do i verify my comm port on the laptop is working?
3. what do I try next to get the software to communicate with the system?

Gentlemen

Do you know what the resulting settings would be if I powered down, removed the FM3 module and replaced it? Would this return the programming to the default factory settings, or would this merely remove all the settings and render the system useless?

I found the manuals for this FM3 and it indicates that if I dont have the huge bulky console (mine is non functioning) then a BIS 34D could be used, but alas I don't have a BIS 34D either.

Hard to say. The old FM3 processor had a rechargeable battery back-up However, they never held a charge for very long - and yours is probably worn out. If you have the system in use right now - I would leave it alone until you get the new processor. Just powering down and restarting would not reset the module to factory default.

Just powering down and restarting would not reset the module to factory default." - Well, it's not supposed to.

That was the very reason my customer i referred to earlier had to upgrade.

They lost power, then they lost all translations.

CAN ANY ONE TELL ME HOW TO FIND OUT THE BARRIER CODE AND REMOTE PASSWORD FOR A MERLIN MAGIX SYSTEM?

When you do a print it will create a txt file on your cpu, and no it doesn't work from the console.

Tou need to connect via WinSPM and do the "print all" - then you will have the information you need.

ok guys io got the password and i got connected but i still can't find the barrier code. I'm stuck
i would really like to be able to connect to this remotely so i don't have to go to the site for every little thing.
any help will do.
thanks much

Did you do a "print all" to WinSPM?

yes and the only thing i find the even talks about a berrier code is in "remote access (disa) information"
under "system wide barrier code lenght : 07

Reset the system's default barrier code length - and that should wipe out all the barrier codes - then go in and set up a new one for remote access programming/maintenance.

But - it is still better to print out a report. Tou can just print the report section for "Remote Access" - which will give you all the barrier codes for all barriers that have been set up. There is a max of 16.

ok here's the deal i set up my win spm for external,
i enter a phone number for the site p-lus about 5 comma's then my barrier cade then another comma then *10 and the thing never connects what am i doing wrong???

Did you setup a specific trunk/line for remote access? You need to do that, and call that specific line for remote access. Did you setup a barrier code - like #1 and then give it a code - based on the max digits length you reset? Did you set up SysProg/Maintenance for remote access?

I didn't relize that you had to set up a specific line/trunck i figured that out and now I have this thing working like a gem.
I want to thank all of you so very much for all the help, I wouldn't have been able to do it otherwise.
you are all are the best
thanks again
millty

One tip for the dial string, you don't need any pause between the barrier code and *10. The same DTMF receiver is still there. It didn't go anywhere.

Example: ATDT NPA-NXX-XXXX,,,,,1234567*10

I have been using this format from the beginning.
