I have recently installed this OS on the PC I'm using right now, it used to have Win ME, which is probably by far the worst Windows that has ever existed.

The PC runs way better than it used to overall, but I do have one big hell of a problem: I recieve an error message that says "can't find the specified file" when I try to install a program.

Programs I've tried to install:

Adobe Reader
Winzip
W2KSP4 (service pak 4)
Windows installer 3.1
And a few more.

Basically anything that has to be extracted or self-extracts.

Could this be a problem with the temporary folder, or not enough RAM? (128)

I've scanned the hard drive for errors (complete surface scan), ran virus and spyware checks... I have Spyware Doctor and AVG Free antivirus installed on my PC, I don't know if either could be interfering with my PC's performance.

Any help will be appreciated.

Close both antivirus and spyware doctor while installing the program as most programs such as spyware stoppers will interfere during an install. Try to install then and see if that works. Ensure though that antivirus and spyware programs are closed first. Once finished installing , see if they work then if they do turn the programs back on and for future references close them when installing.

As you suggested, I closed both Spyware Doctor and AVG Anti virus. I am installing Adobe Reader as we speak. Hopefully it'll be the same for the rest of the programs.

Thanks a lot for the help bro!

I will. right now I'm downloading servie pack 4 to install some other programs that require it.

I'll report back with the results. :D

Installed Service Pak 4

Apparently, when you have an outdated Win 2000 Pro (without any service paks installed) you will get problems like I was.

This time around, I have installed two programs successfuly, and I didn't even have to turn off AVG Anti virus or Spyware Doctor.

I think that the issue is solved for good.

Based on my experience, I would recommend installing Service Pack 4 as soon as you install Windows 2000 Professional(remember to install the service pack with the same language of your Windows version) before installing any antiviruses or anti-spywares to avoid this particular issue.

Hello,

I am trying to install Windows 2000 Pro on my computer. The hard drive it blank and I have formatted it.I get to setup and I get to the point where it says "Setup is done with this part of installing Windows 2000 Professional. If there is a floppy disk in your A: drive;remove it. Your computer will now reboot, after reboot setup will continue." My computer restarts but all I see is a flashing cursor and nothing happens. If anyone knows how to help me,please do.
