Dear all
I ran into a weird situation with MS-Project 2010,
I entered a task in the Gantt View. I added resources, the usage of their utilization etc.
The task is based on units.
When I use the resoure usage view, I suddenly see the task below the ressource mentioned four times and the hours are aggegated which gives me a wrong number of hours this person worked or is planned to work.
I couldn't figure out how this can happen.
Any idea or things to look at?

Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention, I use resource pools

First, ensure you have the latest service pack installed to Project 2010 - it is at SP-2. Next, insert the Project field into the Resource Usage view to see where the assignments are coming from. Is it possible that multiple copies of the same file are attached to the pool file?

Hi JulieInMaine,
the last I can answer: Yes, we have imported them as References to the master project file.
I suppose the latest service pack is installed. MSP says it is version: 14.0.7106.5003
The project field I have not done, so I will check.
Thanks.

If you have shared the resources to the individual files, no reason to share again to the master file. Create the master file by opening the pool file with the third option.

Regarding the service pack - choose File > Help and click on the "Additional Version and Copyright Information" hyperlink. The dialog should clearly say SP2.

Hi JulieInMain,

thanks again for your help. We checked the first tip of your previous message and found out, that although we only imported (referenced) three files, it shows much more in the resourcen usage view, which is strange.
I think we all use the same resource pool and share it properly but I will double check.
We indeed use SP2.

Thanks.

My guess is that there are multiple copies of the same file connected. The Project field should help settle that. You can also check the resource pool file. Open it read/write and choose Resource Ribbon, Resource Pool, Share resources to see the list of files the pool thinks it is sharing resources with.

Thanks
it appears to us that the subproject managers have added their own resources instead of using the resource pool. Additionally they have copied the project file to fill their part in and then added it to the Master file.
New to all of us. Thanks big for your help

I strongly recommend getting some training for all users who will be working with Project and pools.
