Hi all,

I wonder if somebody could shed some light on this subject.

We have a mail server inside our DMZ and it is having problem processing the mail queue quick enough.

We are running sendmail-8.12.9 and people use the server to do mail shots to the outside world. But, the problem is the mail queue doesn't get processed very quickly. Is there anything the can be done?

If I force the mail queue using the command:

"/usr/lib/sendmail -v -q"

It goes through fine but with sendmail just running normally it doesn't procees the mail queue.

Is there an option that can configured etc? Please explain in detail as I am quite new to sendmail.

Thankyou in advance

Chris

Hi,

Getting even more problems now, the mail isn't being processed at all. I have cleared the mail queue and stopped and started sendmail and then sent off some new emails via the server. Th email just sits in the var/spool/mqueue. Forcing the mail queue results in mail being locked e.g.:

Running /var/spool/mqueue/h46AhfnH000392 (sequence 2 of 25)
h46AhfnH000392: locked

or

Running /var/spool/mqueue/h46AcnnH000301 (sequence 6 of 25)
<root@email address.com>... Deferred: Connection refused by fallback.mail etc

Doing the following test "/usr/lib/sendmail -bt -d44.4" results in the following errors:

/usr/lib/sendmail -bt -d44.4
safefile(/etc/mail/sendmail.cf, uid=0, gid=0, flags=6000, mode=400):
safedirpath(/etc/mail, uid=0, gid=0, flags=6000, level=0, offset=0):

[uid 0, nlink 1, stat 100644, mode 400] OK

Can anyone help? it's pretty urgent.

thanks

Chris

Hi again,

It seems to be timing out when looking for the domain name etc. I get the message of Deferred: Connection timed out with etc

Is this configured via the sendmail.cf?

Nothing has changed on the server so I don't see why it's stopped working. It's weird..

Hi,
my best guess is that your PTR DNS record has dissapeared. Check with host <ip-number> (or something similar.
