Problems with Iobit Advanced SystemCare v. 6.0 update??

Has anyone had any problems upgrading Iobit's Advanced SystemCare from version 5.x to the new v. 6.0?

On one of my systems (Windows XP Pro SP3) the new version 6.0 runs just as I would expect it to (which is to say, very well), while on another system (Windows XP Home SP3) the new version is completely flaky, with the system showing 100% CPU usage when the program is running, the Simplified/Expert version flag always showing "Simplified" even though I have explicitly chosen "Expert", and the screen always showing the Simplified version's "Smart Scan" button rather than the Expert version's "Scan" button with the 2 columns of functions displayed to the left of it.

I've tried uninstalling v. 6 and reinstalling v. 5 and running a "Deep Scan" with it and correcting any errors that it found, then reinstalling v. 6, letting it uninstall v. 5. The resulting v. 6 installation had the same problems that it had the first time around. I've had to re-uninstall v. 6 and re-reinstall v. 5, and that's where I've left it, for the time being.

Why did the update work in one instance, but not the other? And what can I do to make it work on the second system?

I don't recall whether it was when ASC went to v5 or v6 that I finally just quit using it, but I did eventually just quit using it. It seems like the product quality altogether began going south. I wonder if it had to do with allegations that they had basically copied and repackaged other programs.

Sorry can't look more directly at the issue - but also, this really is NOT a Virus/Security question at all (not sure there is a good forum for your issue, other than perhaps the Windows XP forum.)

Here are a few apps I'd recommend to use instead:
1. Glary Utilities - does pretty much all the same stuff, and what it does, it seems to do better... and more stable, and seems to use fewer resources to run.
2. CCleaner also does some of the same things, and you could say it's become a standard app for pretty much any Windows desktop machine
3. Auslogics Disk Defrag - can do a little cleanup along with great defrag possibilities.

So other than your security apps, I'd suggest using these 3, and dropping ASC altogether. Of course that's my personal opinion.

Here are a few apps I'd recommend to use instead

of those three, the only one I would suggest is CCleaner, and not for the Registry cleaning, one should not have to use that anymore these days, unless it is the last road to go along...

in my book, pure drivel...
but why not copy the install from the Pro to the Home, as a test?

ASC may rely on services, and other system tools, that are not available in the Home version, or it may just not get along with the hardware/software that is installed on the Home machine...

BBB - what you got against CCleaner registry cleaning. I use it all the time and never caused a problem. Did it ever FIX a problem - don't know.

Agree with Goom, The windows registry doesn't look after itself very well. Needs cleaning up now and again.

Don't get me wrong, I got nothing against the cleaning by CCleaner, except that the registry should only be cleaned when it is REALLY needed.
In my book, it is a given that Goom and Steve, both know when it is time for it, but the JohnDoeNormalUser, doesn't and can really screw things up...

Yeah, I'm not sure I "know" when the registry needs cleaning but I usually do it when I come across a computer that has never seen any maintenance AND/OR when I sit down to a computer and remove a lot of extra junkware. Plus I always make a backup before all changes. Maybe BBB has some guidelines or a better product??

Guidelines, nope here also more or less gut-feeling...

Better product, perhaps, Registry Healer it allows me to see what is being changed and what other options I have... though I must say, that I've not used it on Windows 7 at all yet, wasn't any need for it up until now...

Ben CCleaner shows you what it finds and gives the option to fix or not, unless of course you are daft enough to select 'fix all detected issues',
but as you say JohnDoeNormalUser might just do that! He's called Joe Blogs in the UK (or Joe Public)

CCleaner does that, I know, but it does not tell you what the fix is that it is about to do, e.g. does it DELETE them, or in the case of a messed up link point it in the CORRECT direction?

RegistryHealer points out those problems, and then if it is deletable, will tell you the only option is to delete, in cases of a messed up linkup it will scan the drives for a correct match, and if several are found it then shows all, allowing you to choose which one is best or to delete that entry (or leave it alone)...

and quite correct, Joe Public may do exactly that and possibly mess things up really bad, or just get lucky that through all the many moons that he used the function that it never screws up...
