Problems with IE6 after uninstalling Zone Alarm

Hi,

I'm running IE6 and Zone Alarm on Win98. I uninstalled Zone alarm and encountered problems with IE6 and Outlook Express straight away. I eventually found out what to do when uninstalling zone alarm by removing the appropriate files/folders.

My next step was to reinstall IE6 and Zone Alarm. The problem i am now encountering problems web browsing - I quite get "the page cannot be displayed", but when I refresh (F5) 2 or 3 times, i get the page i want.

This is very frustrating, I don't know what I have done. Can anyone help?

DOn't ask why I uninstalled ZOne Alarm in the first place...I wish I hadn't now

Hi

The exact same thing is happening to me except that mine started after a crash.

There are four, maybe five other instances like this that I've came across at this site and although the symptoms are the same, the cause isn't.

There was one other Crash victim, one had a Norton AV beginning.

A longshot I saw posted once on MS Newsgroups..

PnP use ports also used by ZA.
Try turning off PnP and reboot.

I also get this message from Outlook Express when I download email more than once during a session:

A TCP/IP error occurred while trying to connect to the server. Account: 'pop.paradise.net.nz', Server: '127.0.0.1', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10038, Error Number: 0x800CCC15

Help!!

I'm also getting the monitor give no signal periodically.

PnP is your Universal Plug and Play which "provides seamless connectivity with intelligent appliances".

Using ME its found in Windows Setup/Communications/Universal Plug and Play.

I don't have Win98 but I am sure you have an option to enable/disable it.

Remember it's a longshot..

WHEN ZONE ALARM POPS UP AND ASKS PERMISSION TO 'RECEIVE' OR 'ACCESS THE INTERNET' HAVE YOU EVER CLICKED 'NO' AND 'REMEMBER THIS ANSWER THE NEXT TIME I USE THIS PROGRAM'? IF SO, ZA WILL NEVER CONNECT TO THAT SITE UNTIL YOU CLEAR IT AND GIVE THE O.K. TO CONNECT.

Step 1. Open the ZoneAlarm program, go to Configure panel, and make sure the "Load At Startup" box is UNCHECKED.
- Step 2. Right-click on your taskbar, select "Toolbars," and make sure that the ZoneAlarm deskband is UNCHECKED as well (if it is checked, click on it to uncheck it).
- Step 3. Reboot. You should now have no ZoneAlarm processes running on your system.
- Step 4. Open the Internet Logs directory (on Windows 95, 98, and ME this will be "C:\Windows\Internet Logs", on Windows NT and 2000 it will be C:\WINNT\Internet Logs), where you will find a file called "iamdb.rdb" and a file named after your computer with the ".ldb" extension. Delete both of these files.
- Step 5. Make sure you have emptied your Recycle Bin, then reboot your system.
- Step 6. You will need to start ZoneAlarm manually. (Click "Start," "Programs," "Zone Labs," "ZoneAlarm&quot. ZoneAlarm will start up again with a fresh database. Each program should ask for access again if the files were properly deleted.
- Step 7. Be sure to RECHECK anything you unchecked earlier.
