I have a Cisco 2501 connected to an Astrocom SP100 to a frame connection. Whenever I try to bring the line up I get a "Serial1 is up, line protocol is down" message on the Cisco. I have insured that both Ciscos have an LMI type of cisco but no good. When I tyurn remote loopback on the one Astrocom the Telco says they can't see it. Would they be able to see the loopback?

I have an INTEL ISP3110 VPN Gateway with a Serial Port for Frame relay, but I have not been able to connect it yet. My ISP says that there is phisical connection, but there is not logical connection. Which parameters should I check?

These are the parameters of the link:

int s 0
ip address 172.16.193.90 255.255.255.252
encapsulation frame-relay
ip mtu 1500
mtu 2048
mode red
bandwidth 64000
keepalive 5
frame-n391 6
frame-n392 3
frame-n393 4
frame-lmi annexd
frame-conform none
frame-map 172.16.193.89 0100
dte

172.16.193.89 is the ISP side of the WAN and 172.16.193.90 my IP in the WAN. The DLCI is 0100, and we have asked a 64kb access with a 32Kb CIR.

Alfonso.

i can t help but wonder how you people know so much...

Frame Relay...ATM.....ISDN--> what ever you are installing...

I am curious to know how you folks go about getting the LINK PERAMITERS.

I did an ISDN installl...and i looked to cisco;s web site and there it waz....all the [service provider specific] variables required to complete the install. That was all nice and purrety...but is it really dat nice in the real world?

i observe that I guess that installation attempts should only be executed by highly qualified personnel ....

....i will have to hope that i don't bite off more than i can chew....

hats off to ANYONE who can come in a rooom like this and say something intelligent based on comprehension of the comm-talk

Skoobe- practice... loong bitter practice ;-)

And yes.. many times but not all.. the configs at Cisco do work out fine for the real world. Thats a real feature of their site. Even if it doesnt exactly, it's close enough to get you on your way.

A second "trick" is to use something like Configmaker from Cisco. I used it to spec out a link connection using 56K wics which I have not used before. It gave me the rough outline of what I needed to know was different from them vs what I have used.

Last but not least.. I'm sure I'm not alone with a "library" of heavily used Cisco docs that I have downloaded that I constantly go back to. Mine are burned into a couple of CDs to keep at various sites and one on the road with me.
