I have 98 sec ed. and my files in windows explorer and the save as dialog box are sorting the files by modification. I'd like to sort them by name, but after setting all the options avaible and making sure I have a check mark in the folder options dialog box that is to remember the window and folder settings. All the bacic things are done to get the files in order but after many trys when I open explorer or the save as dialog box the files defaults back to sorting by modification? I hopping there's a registry setting that has been changed by some program install or some kind of data base problem that just can't seem to hold the settings. If you have an idea please enlighten me.
Thanks

That article is for the 'save as' problem. I don't know if it'll fix the windows explorer problem also but it might. If it doesn't try this after restarting. Open windows explorer and change the folder to the way you want then click view--folder options--view tab--click the 'like current folder' button then ok out and close explorer then reopen it.

The microsoft site link you gave me about resolving the sort order in the save as dialog box work great! It also fixed the sort order in Windows Explorer. Another problem I have is right clicking on the Start Button the context menu that comes up has both the open and explore buttons grayed out and not available? Any Ideas?
Thanks for your help.
