i have recently bought a 120gb external hard drive, but am having problems putting data onto it. I originally got the error message "Cannot find the specified file" everytime i tried to put data onto the hard drive, and was told that i needed to format/partition the drive before i put data onto it. When i try to format in computer management, i get the error message "The Format Did Not Complete Successfully".

What is happening?

thanks for any help

what kind of HD?

what are you using to format?

"Cannot find the specified file" sounds like a separate problem....If the drive is visible in explorer it is available, if not formatted it woukd not be visible,

im using computer management to format

the drive is visible but i cannot put anything onto it

I have a Toshiba Protege 3500 Pen Tablet loaded with Windows XP for Tablet PC that just started giving me trouble.

The computer which was left on, was completely off when I returned.
After turning on again, I recieved the message "IDE #0 Error"
Then "Intel Boot Agent Version 4.1.06"
Followed by system information like the MAC address and GUID
Then "PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
Then "PXE-M0F Exiting Intel Boot Agent"
After which it requested the system disk and press any key when ready...

What happened? What should I do about this?

It is connected by USB
It is made my WD (not completely sure, it doesn't have a make on it but using EVEREST it tells me it is a WD drive)
I got a driver disc with it but i think this is for MAC
How do i find out if it is IDE or SATA?
My drive is in NFTS, so what freestone just said doesnt apply (?)

IDE or SATA...use the mdl# provided by everest and google.

I take it that this was pre assembled. As it is USB, what does everest report about your USB version??

USB 2.0?? or USB 1.X

These USB drives really need USB 2.0 to function at a respectable rate. They should however function with USB 1.x albeit much slower.

Run a diagnostic on the drive as a failed format is not a good place to be trouble shooting from
