I have one DC that runs DHCP. I have 5 scopes between each floor.

1 scope 10.2.100.x
4 10.2.104.x
6 10.2.106.x
11 10.2.111.x
200 Voice 10.2.200.x

If I am on the 11th floor with my laptop connected to dhcp and I move down to the 4th floor my ip from the 11th floor sticks. If I release and renew, nothing happens. If I give my self a static and go in and remove my lease from the 11th floor, release/renew...nothing happens.

If I plug in a brand new machine that has not been connected ever before to dhcp, dhcp works perfectly fine. I have never seen this before, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Regards,
Bryan

I've had a similar problem with wireless connections before and have been able to get the connection to get a new IP by disabling and re-enabling the network connection as opposed to just trying the release/renew...

hope that helps

You didn't indicate as to whether these subnets are associated with separate VLANs. If all scopes are available to all floors (ie not-segmented), then when you release/renew odds are you'll get the same IP you had before. When you plug in the new machine it gets the particular IP for the floor you are on, but when you release/renew that one.. does it get a diff IP?

I am sorry I thought I added that info. They are separate vlans/cisco switches 3750.

When I release/renew it does not grab an IP. "limited or no connectivity" But if I do it again or let it sit for awhile, it grabs the same 11th floor ip. Weird stuff.

Do you think it has to do with it being a superscope?

update, removed the superscope and the issue went away. Thanks! :)
