Problems With DFS Overwriting A File with an older version

I've setup full mesh DFS replication with 3 file servers hoping for the following results:

1. Single backup point at main office.
2. Two site offices with fast access to files.

I have users who are consistently saving their files, going home, and having all changes gone. When I check the logs one of the servers has an insane amount of conflicts in the event log. The crazy thing is of all the files in question, no one is accessing or changing them on the other server (I've verified they are all pointing to the dfs root at their site).

Could anti-virus or something else be causing the problem?

I'm ready to scrap it, map them directly to a server, and setup one way replication for backup only.

I'll see if I can find the event ID's. I basically scrapped two way DFS/failover in favor of one-way DFS backup. I did more research after I posted this and found so many people with this same problem and no easy answer.

While this happpened a few times over night the worst was during a reboot. When one of the servers rebooted I could be guaranteed that on conflict checking it would make a bad decision and overwrite good data. In some cases I could pull a copy out of the conflict folder, in other cases I was out of luck.

Looks like DFS on 2003 just isn't ready to live up to the promise. Hoping 2008 had some improvements.

Thanks for the reply
