Problems with Custom recipients

Hi:

I'm running Exchange 5.5 with about 300 users, I need to add custom recipients (or any type or recipient with an external e-mail address ""whoever@somewherelse.com&quot I have added a custom recipient and get this reply when I attepmt to send them messages:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject:
Sent: 7/11/01 5:24 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

test user on 7/11/01 5:24 AM
The recipient name is not recognized
The MTS-ID of the original message is: c=US;a= ;p=1-800-Mattress;l=DAMMAIL-010711122406Z-26
MSEXCH:MSExchangeMTA:MATTRESSAMMAIL


Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you putting the email address in quotes? Are you using internet address?

Check the recipient address is definitely typed correctly.

Can you send to other internet recipients? If the problem is with all internet mail, check the Address Space on the IMS. It should be an asterisk, not your own domain.

Hi and thanks a lot for the very quick reply, I have tried with and without quotes, I have tried different addresses (and made sure the spelling was correct) and we have no problem sending e-mail to other people outside the firm, we can send messages w/o a problem.?!?!?!?

Hi and thanks again for all your help. The IMS was not installed properly on the server, once I installed it, I was able to create custom recepients with no problem
