Hi,

I have a page in pagemaker with a certain coloured background and a picture in there with the same coloured background. They are both in CMYK and they look the same colour.

When I convert my pagemaker document to a pdf file one stays the same colour and the other changes. Does anyone know why this happens?

Adam

It might be better to create the coloured background in Photoshop behind the picture you are using, rather than try to match it in Pagemaker.

Hey, thanks for the advice, it worked perfectly. I feel a little embarrased for not thinking to try that.

Glad to hear it worked - Pagemaker was always a little flakey matching Photoshop's colours.

Hey, I'm sufferinh from the same problem but the previous solution doesn't now work as:

I am trying to match text colour to the colour of a certain part of an image. If I make the cmyk values the same in photoshop (for the image) and pagemaker (for the text) the text in pagemaker is much darker.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Depending on how this piece will be printed (offset or on your desktop printer) will determine how good the match is. I think if the photo and text read the same CMYK values, then even if they don't look right in PM (or on your printer) then they should come out the same when offset printed. If printing to your own printer, then you are just going to have to fiddle around with the colours to get them to match - although don't trust how they look on screen in PM - be guided by how they print.

Hi, Lyn,

Are you still using PM or have you wholly migrated to InDesign?

Hi John

I haven't used PM for nearly 2 years now when I switched to ID2. I've been using ID CS2 for about 16 months. But you don't forget some things and the problem described seems to be universal.

Hi, Lyn,

We've moved to Design Suite CS2 and I've not used PM to create a document for a long time now. It's not installed on any machines at work any more, but I still have PM7, PM6.52 and PM5 installed at home. PM7 and PM5 work OK with WinXP SP2 but PM6.5 is not stable.

I'm slowly forgetting all the foibles and work arounds of PM as ID CS2 just seems to do exactly what's expected of it.

I'm also pleased in the way ID converts my existing PM files with generally only trivial errors, and ID CS2 prints to our Canon Image Runner without any problem whereas ID CS did not, leaving white spaces where there should have been pictures - and using exactly the same PC, driver and network too.

Off to Anfield with my son in a couple of hours… He can buy the beer!

Take care.
