Problems with CD-RW, please help!

I have a lite-on CD-RW. on boot-up, when I open up "my computer" the icon for the CD shows the label of the present CD. When I put a different CD in, the display does not update even with a refresh. It continues to show the previous cd. When I try to open the cd,I get a warning about not being able to find something on the previous cd. I can right click and do an explore and see the contents of the present cd but when I close the window the old volume label is still there. I have to reboot to get it to see the present cd. I'm sure this is a simple setting somewhere, but I've just upgraded to Win XP Pro and damned if I know where it is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Enable AutoRun on the CD drive.
This will force a read of the new CD volume.

I have several different types of CD burning programs and some of them require that the auto play be disabled. Is this the only way to get the CDs to id properly?

I have native XP, Clone CD, Nero, Fireburner, Alcohol 120, CDRWIN, and IsoBurner. Not one asks me to disable autoplay.

I think what you a referring to is disabling the IMAPI service. This is different than autoplay.

Probably the best setting for you would be to set the option in AutoPlay as discussed above to "Take No Action." This is not literally true as Explorer by default will still read the volume unless you made a registry hack to disable completely AutoPlay services, or did so through TweakUI.

If you did, undo it.
