Hello all!

I'm another Linux newbie so please bear with me =) I've successfully stumbled through the install and setup process of RedHat Linux 9, Postgresql, and PHP. Both Postgresql and PHP came pre-installed with Linux and I thought I had set it up right but when I tried to view my first php webpage via the localhost on the browser, I got this message: "Connection refused with attempting to contact localhost". I went to check if Apache was running and when I tried to restart it, I also got this message:

httpd: Could not determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName
httpd not running, trying to start

Can anyone tell me what's going on? Could it be that I have this Linux box hooked directly into my broadband internet via DHCP? Any ideas/solutions would be great.

Thanks,
Jisoo22

check your /etc/hosts file and make sure you have an entry for your ip/computer name etc.. e.g

1.2.3.4 computername.computerdomain computername

also, enter your ip or domain name for the servername in httpd.conf

also, make sure you network card is set to use DHCP
use ifconfig to make sure it is using the right ip
