We had a very unsuccessful upgrade from 9.0.2 (build 860) to 9.0.3 (build 941). Several phones would not upgrade from Release 0.45 to 0.55 ... and fell into "Please Wait..."

Other phones were stuck on "Download Denied 12)"

When we rebooted those phones returned: "No Application Firmware Waiting for FW Download" "System Not Responding"

I attempted to reinstall 9.0.3 and re-upgrade, same result. Reverted to 9.0.2 snapshot on the manager and pushing 9.0.2 downgraded and everything worked fine. The phones that were completely dead, acquired the Release 0.45 firmware and logged. The 0.45s stating please wait...always logged in.

Is anyone else having an issue? Any ideas on workarounds?

What model phones are you using? I'm having issues with my upgrade but with IP routes.

Mostly 9508s. We have some 9608s in the field, which the update broke as well, but I never got to troublshooting those. Could have been something simple like 96xx settings.

Very possible. Have you tried replacing the 46xxsetting.txt, 96x1Hupgrade.txt, and 96xxupgrage.txt in Embedded File Management with the ones from your Manager directory?

No, I never got as far as troubleshooting the 9608s. The upgrade so crippled enough internal digital 9508s that I was forced to downgrade back to 9.0.2. Whole thing just very puzzling, as I've been doing the upgrades in this identical fashion since 8.0 something. But this one just didn't go well.

Curious whether it is just a buggy firmware...or if something else I can try.

Monitor pretty useful for troubleshooting this sort of thing, what are you seeing as the error when it tries to pull the file? Is the system set to grab the files from the memory card or the Manager PC?

andynetcon,

I was in a bit of a panic, as it is a 24/7 call center and the downtime was starting to be a problem - and I didn't think to watch Monitor. Very good call out though. I guess at this point, I'll have to try it again to know.

As for the file server, Manger PC (I believe you are asking about the SYSTEM>Phone File Server Type setting, correct?) Is that part of the issue, is it better to do memory card? I was thinking the Manager PC was better for serving larger scale. Although, this installation is only 50 9508s and 4 9608s.

Upgraded a site from 8.1 to 9.0.3 just a bit ago.
Bloody thing didn't put the updated 96xx upgrade txt files on the system, so all the 9611's were barking about it. That was a long upgrade.
I've noticed more and more recently that doing an upgrade from manager (not directly to the sd card) breaks things.

I just reapplied the exact same update (virtual machine snapshot), this time using the "Memory Card" setting for distribution to the handset. The upgrade went perfect. Wish I had time to troubleshoot what went wrong with the upgrade using "PC Manager Setting"

But for the record, 9.0.3 appears stable, once it's deployed.

I found an interesting issue with my 9508 on my demo system that I just upgraded to 9.0.3. The firmware updated OK but after a few days I noticed the DTMF had disappeared when dialling calls. The call went through OK but obviously I couldn't use an auto attendant. I rebooted the phone and the DTMF came back but then disappeared again.

I was changing some line settings trying to get a SIP trunk working so needed to reboot and that seems to have fixed the DTMF problem. This is using the Australian locale.

I've also noticed it takes a while to upgrade from 8.1 to 9 and then the service packs - close to 2500 files to upload.

That's why it's best to upgrade via the SD card whenever possible, much quicker. Unless you're getting paid hourly and just want to milk it, of course.

Also ICS, modify your 46xx.txt so you don't have to upload all the language packs and .c11 files for other locales. Or delete the files in Manager.
