I have just taken delivery of a 3640. I have also received a network module with two WIC ports. I have installed the card yet when i enter setup and ask to see current interface setup it does not see the the module. Is there anyway i can check if the card has been seen by the router.

When it boots the EN light lights up for about a second and then goes out.

I am familiar with Cisco routers but have never worked on a 3600.

the problem is your IOS does not support this module. what module to you have and what IOS is it? all you must do is check the CCO documentation regarding your module and download the image that supports it.

easy fix.

haow do i upgrade the image if i cannot get a ip connection to the router

First you got to see is your router RFR or RFF.RFR means
that it boot IOS from rom not from flash card like RFR.
I think 3640 is RFR so you got to go to rommon promt by pressing ctrl+break keys in terminal software in first 60 seconds of booting. Then you can choose to download image from ethernet or from console port.See documents about details or type download_? for switchies.Or you can boot IOS and download image from there to flash card.If it is RFF then only way is to start xboot(rommon) and download image or to get second flash card and to boot it, and from that ios do download image to first flash card, then boot first FCard.
See appendix in getting started for rommon options.
Hope it is helpfull...
