Hey Everyone,

My PC came w/ XP Home and I want to upgrade it to Professional. So I used the Professional Upgrade CD, but during the process of Installing Windows I get these errors:

Error:
Setup could not register the OLE Control
C:\Windows\System32\netman.dll because of the following error: LoadLibrary returned error 193(c1).

Error:
Setup could not register the OLE Control C:\Windows\System32\netshell.dll because of the following error: LoadLibrary returned error 193(c1).

Error:
Setup library iis.dll could not be loaded, or function OcEntry could not be found. Contact your system administrator. The specific error code is 0x7e.

Fatal Error:
Setup was unable to initialize Network installation components. The specific error code is 2

I would really appreciate any help. Thanks.

rename c:\windows\system32\catroot2 catroo2old and then try the upgrade again.

Or, do this:

Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

del /q %SystemRoot%\System32\Catroot2\Edb.log

This command will force the catalog database to rebuild itself.

Catalogs are a mechanism used by Windows to verify the authenticity and integrity of installed binary files. Unfortunately, the database that associates these catalogs with the appropriate files may become corrupted. This fix permits the database to repair itself when corruption occurs.

When the error:

"Setup was unable to initialize Network installation components. The specific error code is 2"

came up I tried doing the command: "del /q %SystemRoot%\System32\Catroot2\Edb.log" to rebuild the catalog database. But when I restarted the computer I got the error:

"The signature for Windows XP edition Setup is invalid. The error code is fffffdf0. The system cannot find message text for message number 0xfffffdf0 in the message file for Syssetup.dll. Fatal Error: Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more information.

So I typed cd\windows\system32\ renamed catroot2 to catold, using as the guide. When I restarted the computer the error for unable to initialize Network installation came up again. Also a window came up stating the asms file needs to be found came up. So I followed the steps on this website:
This didnt solve the problem either. Are there any other solutions I can try? Also, if someone can explain what OEM refers to? Thanks alot.

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacter - which means the PC came installed with the OS - XP Home Edition when purchased.

There are some tips which lead to patching the upgrade process, however, I have never been successful.

My advice, save your data files and install XP Pro from scratch. You will save days of frustration and will have a clean install.

Good Luck,
Scott
