We run our own DNS for our domain, and our ISP has delegated our IP block to our name server. However, I can't seem to get the TTL value for our mail server's PTR record to update. We need it to be set to a minimum of 43200, and it is showing the default 300.

Using the DNS management console (under the SOA tab), I have set the Minium (default) TTL to be 12 hours, and under that, the "TTL for this record" is also 12 hours.

However, when I use a lookup tool on the Internet it still shows the default 300...

What server are you querying from the outside? Your internal DNS server? What happens when you do a lookup from inside your org?

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

I'm talking about the lookups from outside. For example, I have used DNS Stuff and idwhois.info and both show a TTL of 300, even though I've set the TTL for the record to be 12 hours (43200).
