Problems since installing the remote agent

When i try to backup SQL databases on a remote server, i get the following error appear on it:

beremote.exe - entry point not found
?
sqluiupdateregistryfromresource@@yajhpauhinstance_@@ikpapbg1@z could not be located in the dynamic link library sqlresld.dll

In the job log on the backup server it says "The database server is not responding, backup set cancelled."

Any idea how i can resolve this ?

Try uninstalling the Remote Agent on the remote server and reboot.
Then reinstall the remote agent.

I took your advice and did what you said, but it is still getting the same error when i try to back the server up.

Any more ideas ??

Do you have the SQL agent installed aswell as the remote agent?

No, there's just the remote agent on there. Do i need both of them installed ?

Yes you need to install both remote agent and the SQL agent if you are trying to backup a live database, or you could shutdown the database and perform a cold backup (then you would only require the remote agent).

Hi Helen,
The previous response was correct, you do need both agents to back up SQL. This is an alternate suggestion. I have SQL agent installed but when I tried to restore from backup, my DBA and I ran into complications that took us the better part of a day to solve. We now use the backup option in SQL to create scheduled backup files and then use BackupExec to backup the SQL backup files. We have dispensed with the SQL Agent and restoring has been much simpler.
