Hi,
Happy New Year to you all.

I wonder if anyone has come across this problem or could offer some advise.
We have several databases running on the same machine (HP-UX 11.11), with both versions 8.1.7 and 9.2.0.
We have a simple script to shut down the databases for the nightly backup. However we have found that this is not working on this box because it reads the first SID (8.1.7) in the list, shuts that down then exits.
A problem with the script, you say?
Well the strange thing is if we change the list and put the 9.2.0 databases first, it shuts those down fine, then does the first 8.1.7 database then exits, no matter which 8.1.7 we list first.
The same script works fine on other machines, where the same version of oracle is installed.

Hope this makes sense?

Thanks for any advice you could give

Phil

Your script may need to set the correct ORACLE_HOME for each version. [3eyes]

Hi thanks for reply,
Yes the ORACLE_HOME is set for each database in the list.

Does your script use the oratab file?

If so, you will need to specify each database sid separately (for example: no lines beginning with '*' asterix).

Otherwise we would need to take a look at your script.
