Problems seeing Access in both Windows 98 and Windows XP

I have created a database that sets on our server (Windows 98). I have a shortcut on 3 computers using Windows 98(which for all of the 3 computers is the F drive) and 1 computer using Windows XP (which this computer is the L Drive) to this database.

In this database that sets on the server there are forms that get information from 3 tables that are linked to a master database (also resides on the server). All 3 computers have no problems accessing this database and seeing the forms, and selecting information from the 3 linked tables. The shortcut that resides on the Windows XP, while the database can be opened, and the form can be seen, the 3 tables that have information, where that information should be diplayed is blank.

On the Windows XP computer, I have opened up the shortcut to the database, gone into tables and re-linked the tables by linking through his L Drive and when I do this then this computer using Windows XP can see everything but then the 3 computers (where our access to the server is through the F Drive) then cannot see the information on the form where the 3 linked tables get there information. I have changed it back to where the computers using Windows 98 can see everything but how do I get the guy using Windows XP so he can see everything too?

Are you using a single front end?

Usual method is to have a front end on each PC,

Another solution if you want to stick with just one fron end is to link your tables using the UNC path instead of mapped drive eg \\computername\...etc instead of F:\..etc

Why have different mappings anyway is this not endlessly confusing for everyone?

I think using the UNC may be the way to go but still not clear how to map it. If I go thru the normal route of linking a table, it does not give me the opportunity to name the path. So how would I specify a UNC path?

Hi

Just navigate to network neighbouthood, then choose from compteres listed, instead of taking "easy" option of mapped drive

Thank you for the information. Navigating to the network neighbourhood was the way to make the connection. I did go to all computers and am able to see the link table information on all of them. Problem has been solved, thanks again for the insight. I wanted to give you a star but not clear how to add it to this post so consider this your "***Star***".
