We have the following problem. I have scheduled 2 tasks. one foor Virusscan 2 update from a share on our network and one 4 netshield.

The netshield update doesn't update the Dat files. I have 2 update our Server with the share by hand (run Now). All the virusscan task update then from the share witout any problem. but Netshield doesn't. Checked all access and Null shares. that's ok.

Anyone has a clue what it is?

Thankx Erik

In the NetShield task, make sure you specify a username and password to execute the task, not the "currently logged on" account. AVChap
... take my advice, I don't use it anyway!

I have tried that, I used the Admin account 2 connect. it's the same account that i used voor the virusscantask.

Hello Erik2B

We experienced the same problem and worked closely with McAfee Tech Support trying to resolve the problem. They never did come up with a "100% works everytime" solution so we just developed our own methods.

Currently, we download the DAT update, rename it "SDAT.exe", use one server to push it out to a share on each server and use Windows "Scheduled Tasks" to run the update at specific times each day. The entire process is automated except for the download from McAfee and renaming of the DAT update.

This method has got us very close to 100%. The only problems that we experience now is occasional problems with the Windows Scheduled Tasks.

That is a good idea.. The only thing thats strange is that when i used the scheduler from netshield/vshield for updating the Datfile it works...

i'm currently also working with MCaffe 2 find a solution.

I think the problem is that the agent doesn't have enough rights to execude the task to a remote directory. even with a NULL share

Hello Erik2B

I find Tech support at McAfee very helful and friendly. They were the first to admit that the AutoUpdate and AutoUpgrade does not work consistantly. After about 1 year of trying different methods of making AutoUpdate work, we gave up and found our own methods.

Our servers are setup just as I explained.

Our workstations use a product from Marimba called Castanet to "pull" updates from Castanet RepeaterTuner servers which works very nicely. We are a worldwide company and all workstations are updated globally from a infrastructure of Castanet RepeaterTuner servers.
