problems opening an excel documents

Hi, i've got some problems opening an excel document with excel 2000. It takes about 3 minutes to open it. I tried to open it with excel 2003, it worked fine. The problem is, that document is used at the moment by about 50 users, and a massive migration to office 2003 is excluded due to licence problems. I tried to update office 2000 hoping it would solve the issue, but it did not work. Does anyone have an idea?

try opening the file in excel 2003 and save it as microsoft excel 97-2000 & 5.0/95 workbook. save it also under a different filename; open it in excel 2000 and see if the problem disappear.

Actually I tried that too but it did not work either
