Problems moving devices attached to a 4005

We have two banks of 3com SuperStack3 switches connected to a 4005 as our internal router. Our LAN contains two subnets with devices from each spread over both banks of switches. As part of a tidy-up we are trying to put each subnet on it's own bank of switches. Before moving a device I can ping it (I am on one subnet, the device is on the other) and then I move it to the other bank of switches I can no longer ping the device, although I can ping it from another device on the other subnet. Any ideas?!?

The 4005 has two interfaces, one for each subnet. Here's some stuff I've tried already;
1. I've left the device for over half an hour in case there was some timeout issues on the MAC and IP address on the switches - all the timeouts on each switch are set to a maximum of 30 minutes - most are a couple of minutes
2. I've also tried flushing all the addresses from the 4005
3. If I change the IP address on the device then I can ping it but this is not practical for all the devices needing to be moved.

On the 4005, flush the FFT and ARP tables (dynamic), sometimes they will be out of sync after moving equipment around.

protocol/ip/arp/flushFFT
protocol/ip/arp/flushdynamic

FFT table holds the MAC address and port address, this is matched with the ARP table which holds the IP address and MAC address.
