I was installing Redhat 8.0 when it crashed midway
saying there was an error.
When I restarted the installation I got a grub prompt that just wont go away. I cant get to start the installation again.

The system initially had windows NT installed in it , I installed redhat 8.0 on it(with grub as loader). The Xserver would not start then. After trying a bit I decided to reinstall.I got the crash then and now all I get is a grub prompt.

The thing is this prompt comes whether or not I have the bootable cd in the cdrom

Will appreciate any help

If when you insert the bootable cd and you boot up, you get the grup loader, that means either

1. You CD is faulty
2. Your BIOS is not letting you BOOT from your CD.
3. When loading from your CD, you don't press the space bar, to continue loading from your CD.

It is my personal opinion that RH 8.0 is complete crap (and yes, I'm actually a fan of RH). I tried installing it several times, both in GUI and text modes on two different machines. Also tried playing with BIOS settings, different CD's, different CD-ROM drives, to no avail. It crashed out every single time. So far, I know of only one person (out of 3 who have tried) who has successfully gotten it to install. And now he's downgrading back to 7.3 because 8.0 overwrote his Apache config and some other issues...maybe they were LDAP issues, I can't recall.

Bottom line: I'd recommend staying away from 8.0, at least for now.

You should probably change a BIOS setting to have it boot from CD-ROM before the HDD, to avoid getting the Grub prompt. --Buffer0verflow

Do you mean removing the power cord and starting all over?
I had restarted several times
