Problems Getting PC to load anything!

Yeah i recently started building my own PC,
I bought all the stuff on tigerdirect.com, and made sure it was compatable. i got all the parts in and set off to work. Got everything together and, it wont load up anything, no beep to signal that its loading up, blank screen, the only thing thats working are the fans. the cd-rom wont even open. any information would help.

Heres what i got.

Gigabyte 7n400 Pro II Socket A motherboard
Speeze Socket A/370 Cooling Fan up to xp 2800+
AMD Athlon EP 2800+ CPU 333FSB Barton Core
Premium 512MB PC2100 DDR 266hz x 2
XfX Geforce Fx 5700 LE 256MB DDR 8x AGP W/TV & DVI
Pacific Digital Int 12x DVD+/RW Drive

Well if the fans are moving, at least we know the PSU is working. Your CDROM drive should be connected directly to the power supply. Because the fans are working then so should the CDROM. Make sure you have the power cable firmly connected and in the right direction.

As for anything else, who knows? It could be anything:

1) Bad CPU mount
2) Incorrect power connection to motherboard
3) Damaged hardware

Some M/Bs ship with clear CMOS jumpered. That keeps the system from running.

an update, i took the ram out to see if i get those beeps, but i got nothing does this mean i got a bad M/B or what?

If RAM was the problem, you would have gotten a beep code to begin with. At this point, it is likely one of the following:

1) CPU
2) Motherboard
3) PSU
4) Power cable connections

It just doesn't make sense that your CDROM isn't getting power - it doesn't rely on any of the other components except the PSU.

The CD-Rom works now, i'm goin to take it apart and completly rebuild it tomorrow, i'll let you know what happens.

I notice the specs mention "Dual Channel memory". Are your PC2100's up to the task?

I guess, the M/B says it supports PC2100

Well, back to square one. Take out the motherboard and power supply. Place the motherboard on the box it came in. Plug in just the power supply, mem (one stick), CPU, and video. See if it will boot to "first screen" (no operating system found). If not, check ALL jumpers on mobo. If so, look for "stand-offs" (chassis supports) in wrong place. They should only be installed where there is a "pad" around the mounting screw holes on the bottom of the mobo.

Found it was a ram problem, thanks for all the help
