I have a dual boot w2k and xp pro machine. i have no problems downloading anything in the 2000 part. the xp part does not want to download anything whether its in IE or through the updating of software. what could cause this.

I am running xp sp1, i have a linksys 100tx card and a linksys dsl router.
it like stalls and just sits there.

any help would be great.
Thanks
Shari

What does it say when you try? Is this a standalone machine or is it connected to a network?

It doesn't say anything...I can surf the web no problem. But when I try to download anything be it. a file or a program from AOL..It just hangs..nothing going in or out.

Run through the options listed in this similar thread.

had to download the updates via windows 2000 and then reboot and install on xp..the update problem seems to be fixed but i still cannot download files in xp..my copy has been activated. i want to download aol and i can't, i can't download drivers or any other files...do i need to reinstall xp?

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Downloading.

Try Safe Mode With Networking (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP (Q315341)

Found out what the issue was...The NIC Card Driver that installed automatically with XP was bad..I have a Linksys 10/100 LNE TX v2 card..I reinstalled the drivers with the drivers of Win2k and lo and behold..everything works..can download,,update windows xp...Life is good

Thanks for everyones Help

I'm having the same problem, and have tried the different nic solution to no avail. I'm at the point where I'm about to do a clean install, but I'd really like to know what the problem is as I'm a tech, and I'm sure I will see this again.

For every function, there is an equal and opposite malfunction.
