After creating a new public folder tree and store, the Exchange System Manager will not allow the creation of new folders in the tree. Right-clicking on the the tree, slecting New...Folder simply does nothing. No dialog comes up, no error is reported, and no events are recorded in the Event log. I was able to work around the problem by creating a virtual directory pointing to the public folder tree and utilize OWA to create the folders i need. Any ideas on what can cause this and how to fix it?

I had the same prolem and I had to do all of the following to get all the components working again. Reinstall the latest SP and rollup. After reinstalling the service pack and rollup I was getting a new error that said "The object is no longer available. Press F5 to refresh the display, and try again." I got this error when I would try and save the newly created public folder. During this time I was also having an issue with OWA. Since the sp and rollup had been reapplied I figured the problem was related to urlscan and IIS lockdown. I did some research on MS KB and found some good info. I installed the latest version of IIS lockdown and that got OWA running again. To fix the public folder issue I edited the urlscan config file by remarking out .com in the deny extensions section and added .com to the allow extension section. After those changes I stopped and started the IIS administration service. Please note that after you restart the service you will have to manually start the exchange services. Also, note that the smtp service is running, but may have to be stopped and started if exchange is not sending and receiving mail.

Good luck,
John

After further investigation, the installer of the software had not service packed Exchange 2000 yet. After installing SP3 for Exchange it cleared up all of the problems.
