I have Windows 2000 Pro on my home machine and Windows XP Pro on my laptop. I am trying to connect them together using internet sharing so I can share my internet connection and also share files. I have tcp/ip enabled and I have also selected internet sharing on 1 of my NIC cards on my home machine and a cable coming out of my second NIC card which then goes to a switch and from the switch to my laptop however the internet connection does not work, why I dont know..... I have tried to browse my home computer using My Network Places, I see the workgroup and click on it and then see the laptop but when I click on it it asks for a username and password. I only have admin set up on both machines for which i have entered the username and passwords but it still will not let me connect...can anyone help, please????

Make sure you don't have the "Enable Firewall" setting turned on your NIC that you have enable ICS. Just disable it for now to see if that is causing the problem.

Are you using FIXED IP addresses for the machines? Chris Elston

Have you actually shared any drive/folders on the 2k machine (I don't mean the default C$ shares)?

Try setting up and using another user (same name/password) on both machines (good idea anyway - not a good idea to use Adminstrator account for normal use).

Is the internet sharing working? (doesn't need file sharing, just TCP/IP to be ok). XP machine should be set to pick up IP address automatically by the way (as 2k machine acts as DHCP server when ICS enabled).
