my predecessor was able to connect via modem to our nortel meridian 11c to make changes such as chaning extensions, ringing pickup groups, etc.

I thought I had duplicated his hyperterminal setup, but the issue I have is that when I dial in I get blinking cursor not a login prompt.

It should be prompting me with LOGIN PLEASE, but all I get is a blinking curser. no matter what I type it asks for the account code, I type it in it then tells me IMPROPER LOGIN ACCESS DENIED, then I get what looks like asci codes.

I have emulation st as ansiw, telnet terminal ID is VT100.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you are communicating with a secure modem rather than the PBX. In that case you need to get past the modem security. Do you know anyone that would know the password and login for the modem? Do you have a PBX vendor that helps you? Maybe they are monitoring your PBX for alarms? They should be able to help you with access.

I know the password and login for the modem, but it doesnt prompt me for that.

there is a vendor I can call, but they charge :)

I had this working previosly, but I got a new laptop.
there was a slight change I had to make in the hyperterminal settings on my old laptop, but darned if I can remember what it was.

You won't become transparent to the port until you enter the correct password. i.e., you won't see what you are typing on the screen until the correct password is entered.

Try typing KOA then hit enter. you may have to do it more than once.

Wait 8 seconds after dialing is completed - I always do this....or
...immediately try entering a <CR> and see if a response is sent
...also try different speeds in your setup...

What are youe setting set at?

have you tried 9600, n, 8, 1 ?

PS, if you have a maint contract, the vendor should give you the correct setting and User/Password for free, if not you have the wrong vendor.

....dropping speed down to 1200 plus n,8,1 fixed a similar problem for me....

Or you may need to go higher as Vendors don't have all day to get info from switches so they make it faster. You may get an idea by printing the ADAN in LD 22 and see what your TTY's are set for.

On my 11C TTY 0 is connected to the Modem and the Speed is set by the DIP switches on the face plate. look at the cables in the bottom of the cab and see which TTY port is connected to the Modem.
