I have installed apache version 2.0.46 and am having a hell of a time trying to configure it. It installs and runs fine until i start editing the httpd.conf to fit my needs. Initially it will run and pull the start up page from the htdocs folder, However I need to have my document root at c:/www. As soon as i change that apache gives errors and refuses to start and i get a page not found error. What i am trying to run is 2 virtual hosts which are located in c:/www. I can't get this to work to save my life however. I had some help in an earlier thread that lead nowhere so i am trying to make more sense this time. Please let me know what you think i am doing wrong. I will paste my conf here if nessasary. Thanks in advance.

i am actually not running service pack 1 but it never mattered before. LIke i said this was a clean instal on a freshly fdisked drive. the server works before virtual hosts are added but when starting the virtual host it goes down. anyways let me know how it goes.

i officially give up on version 2. i reinstalled 1.3.27 configured the conf and it's up and running. I was really hoping to use 2 but what can you do? thanks for all the help.

The install went fairly well. I setup the new directory structure for the vhosts then put an index.html in each of the docroots but apache wouldn't start after adding the vhosts in httpd.conf. I commented out the lines for the logs and presto!, it worked like a champ. Now that I know what is causing the problem, I will look to see why that would make it freak out. Who knows, maybe I'll add MySQL and PHP and use it as a backup server. :)

weird mine wouldnt run with vhosts at all? oh well let me know how it all turns out.

Interesting that the logs appear to be the problem. I use one log file for all the vhosts, so I wouldn't have seen this problem.
