Problems browsing the network

I have a strange issue with an XP Pro laptop, as follows:

I have been breaking the network up into VLANs recently. If I plug the laptop into the 192.168.13.0 vlan, giving it an appropriate ip address and gateway, it can browse the network in "Network Places" with no problems. If I plug it into VLAN 192.168.26.0, it cannot browse the network, although it evidently is seeing the network because I can map drives to servers, ping etc, and it logs onto the domain.

Now, if I plug a PC into the 192.168.26.0 VLAN, it can browse the network fine.

There would seem to be no common denominator here. So, can anyone suggest what might be causing it?

Phil.

What IP address, default gateway and subnet mask is the laptop getting for each network? Or are you entering these manually? If so what are you giving it?

I'm entering the ip addresses manually. I'm giving it 192.168.13.28 when in the 13 vlan and 192.168.26.28 when in the 26 vlan, the default gateway being 192.168.13.1 and 192.168.26.1 respectively. There are no routing issues since, as I said above, it can see the network, in terms of authenticating to the domain, being able to ping, and mapping drives etc, it just won't browse via "network places" when on the 26 vlan.

Are you re-booting the laptop each time? I'm wondering if something is being cached locally? I guess it's on the same domain both times but a different controller?

Have you tried flushing the dns cache?

What does NET VIEW [\\computername [/CACHE] | /DOMAIN[:domainname]]

Show when on each network?
