Problems booting Gateway system

I am having a problem with my gateway computer. When I turn it on the power light comes on and displayed on the monitor is a message stating you can now turn the monitor off...and thats all it shows just that message. In the past it would show that message and then continue to boot and load my desktop but now it just shows that message.........
