We have recently installed a new win 2k networker server (6.1.3) and all the clients are working except one SCO client. Everything i try to back it up it come back with connection timed out everytime.
I have checked the host files and they are ok and so is the servers file. If i try to start the backup from the client it works but if i try to from the server it times out. Also the old server which is running 6.2 can backup the SCO client.

Any ideas ?

Could you try a "savegrp -vvv GRP_NAME" from the server, it should be more verbose.

You could also check that this client is really using "servers" file and not starting directly with a "nsrexecd -s servername" (with ps -ef| grep nsr).

But it really looks like a network issue.

Below is the response it returned with.

savegrp -vvv Test
leawards:All level=incr
10/17/2003 02:37:28 PM savegrp: Run up to 24 clients in parallel
10/17/2003 02:37:28 PM savegrp: leawards:probe started
savefs -s legato3.merton.gov.uk -c leawards -g Test -p -l full -R -v
10/17/2003 02:38:44 PM savegrp: command 'savefs -s legato3.merton.gov.uk -c leawards -g Test -p -l full -R -v ' for client leawards exited with return code 9.
10/17/2003 02:53:07 PM savegrp: leawards:probe succeeded.
* leawards:All rcmd leawards, user root: `savefs -s legato3.merton.gov.uk -c leawards -g Test -p -l full -R -v'
* leawards:All accept: Connection timed out
* leawards:All Connection timed out

It really looks like a name resolution issue.
Try to add all known host name (FQDN) in the leaward Client's aliases field (within Networker).

The fact that you can backup from the client go in that way...

SCO Openserver/Unixware are no longer supported clients, as such you should look at using other backup software to secure the client in question.

Its strange that it backs up on the old 6.2 Networker server but doesnt backup on the new 6.1.3 networker server.
