Hi everyone

I've had this problem since I first installed the HP SureStore Tape Autoloader 1/9: When backing up/restoreing to a tape in the drive (for example slot 3), the autoloader begins with tape 1, loads it into the drive, scans it quickly and puts it back into slot 1, then going to slot 2 and 3 and 4... doing the same thing. After completing all slots (takes about 10-15 minutes), it loads the tape from slot 3 and starts to backup, the way it should.

I hope, someone of you knows how to fix this, as it is very annoying.

Here some infos:
Autoloader: HP SureStore Tape Autoloader 1/9
Media: Ultrium
Firmware: latest (August 03)
SCSI-Card: Adaptec AIC78u2
Backup-SW: ArcServe 2000 AE 7.0 SP4

Thanks!
Mark

It looks it doing invntory before start backup are running a batch file in pr-job which doing this .

Is this problem happing suddenly or it happend before

Have you checked is this tape library is certified or not from ca support site

There is nothing entered in pre-job.
The Tape Library is ca certified.
This problem has always existed. It has never been different.

Any other ideas?

As a test do a Quick Erase Plus on a tape and then try the backup.

Thank you for your posts!

It finally seems to work. (I still can't believe it)
Here's what I did:
- Set the Autoloader time and date correctly
- Set operation mode from "Automatic" to "Random"
- Reboot the Autoloader (as this hasn't been done for about 3/4 Year)
- Install newest HP Tape Tools
- Re-Apply the ArcServe SP4
- Re-Install the Tape Library Option
- Re-Install the Tape Library update
- Re configure the Tape Library

I don't really know, which one of these steps was the key to the success.

greetings
Mark

Mark,

the key here was the setting from 'automatic' to 'random'.
ARCserve only supports tape libraries/autoloaders in random mode.
Thanks for your update,

regards
