I have a problem accessing certain directories on a disk-based web, over a LAN at work, using my (slow) laptop. I think, I may be wrong and I haven't counted properly, that this happens with the directories containing larger amounts of files. The error I get is (roughly)

The server "" timed out. The current request did not complete successfully.

Some directories are fine to work with. If I open the web over the internet directly from the site, everything is fine.

The FrontPage log says the following:

29 Aug 2001 09:48:21 +0100: file:// - Error #80002 Message: System exception: access violation.
29 Aug 2001 09:48:21 +0100: (OS Error #-1073741819 Message: exception occurred at 0x67ee79b6)

This is all only on the one machine. All the Win2000 machines are fine with it, a few other Win98 machines have no problems. Just me with my old laptop runing Win98 has these problems. Any ideas?

Here it is, look toward the bottom, your exact error is there.

thanks for looking around for me. :) the 80002 error code seems to pop up all over the place for a great number of problems. that particular kb article doesn't seem to apply to us right now, as the disk based web is just a staging area for the site before being published. as such, it doesn't have any extensions installed - it's just file storage, which is why this is so odd.
