Hi,

I am currently working and studying. I use XWin32 to connect to school from home. Just yesterday I removed an older version of x win and installed version 5.4.
I get an error when I try to connect:

/usr/openwin/bin/xterm Xt error: Can't open display:192.168.2.31:0

I have tried every possible idea from changing settings in my XConfig to reinstalls and reboots.
Nothing works and I'm out of ideas.

I hope this is the right forum to ask for any ideas or insights.

It's always in the details.

Couple step need to check:
1. Goto xconfig --> Security Tab --> Click on Default.
2. Check to make sure the no hosts listed in xhost.
3. ping the IP address/HostName of remote host
4. If you run windows XP --> Disable the firewall.

hn4810,

* My firewall is disabled.
* The remote host works.
* I clicked defaults on the security tab.

I use a Belkin router at home. Would that make a difference?

It might.
Connect to router --> Forward the incomming port # 6000 to the PC's IP Address (192.168.2.31).
Goto X-config --> Click on Display Tab --> Click on Proxy --> Put the Router IP address in the box.

Regards
