Problem with Windows XP Remaning new folders on users Home Drive 1

I have a problem that appears to be related to laptops with a Dell image. Users are able to create/delete new folders on there home/network drive, but cannot rename them. They can save documents to current folders, but when creating a new folder, the folder shows as New Folder, but cannot be changed. Usual error is permissions or drive is full.

Main resolution has been to reimage the computer with a company version of Windows XP. I have not seen any problems reoccur once the company image has been applied.

I found another site that shows issues that can cause such problems with "Embassy trust suite by wave systems installed on the user's PC? Because a process called WavXdocmgr.exe which is part of the Embassy trust suite from WaveCorp can cause such problems."

Since these are normally laptops which do include Embassy Trust I have a concern, but when reimaging with the company OS version, I normally reinstall these drivers/software.

Any ideas?

Rename requires the delete permission. Check the NTFS security permissions on the folder where this happens - be sure to check the advanced permissions. See if there is a deny permission set for the delete capability.

Thanks for the link for Microsoft. It looks promising.

Minor clarifications:

The folders are normally not the root share which we use M: as the mapped drive, but is actually the My Documents folder on M (M:\My Documents). We assign M: in AD to \\nas\facility\%username% and then set the local My Documents properties to M:\My Documents.

The users can create and delete folders, but the only issue is they cannot rename the "New Folder" created. This would seem to preclude problems with Delete permissions.

The first several users that experienced this problem, permissions were correct on root share and on My Documents subfolder. The current user had issues where the permissions were not assigned correctly and we assumed that correctly the permissions would correct the problem, but we were wrong and the problem remained.

The strange thing is that

1) reimaging the computer with company image seems to work 2) the problem seems confined to laptops

and that is why I was wondering if anyone had noticed any similar issues with the Embassy Trust software.

Thanks for the try, but the Microsoft link was no help. I checked the permissions on the folders under the root that were created and they already had the correct permissions. The user can even save files to the new folders, but just cannot rename them even though the permissions show Full Control.

Any suggestions would be appreciated...

Have you done the rounds of Google?

"Users may find that ending the WavXDocMgr.exe process from task manager can result in the problem going away until the PC is stopped and started again, or this process is restarted."

Embassy Trust Suite Causes Access Denied with Netserver

For all to view: This fixed the issue immediately. After killing the process WavXDocMgr.exe the user was able to rename the folders in question on the local share as well as the My Documents folder on the local share.

Thanks linney!!! I will post any updates on figuring out how to disable this process without diabling the application Embassy Trust Suite.

Thanks again for the post and will check out the links as well.
