Hi all
I have two servers running AD (win2000 Server), one XPpro machine and two 98 machines. My internet is through a cable modem attached to a router. DHCP on the router is disabled as the win2000 Servers issue IP nos. through DHCP.

I have set DNS up on all machines the primary DNS is the AD PDC and the secondary is the DNS of my ISP (im not sure if this is the correct way to have them set)

The default gateway is set to the IP address of the router.

I get get out on the internet on both servers and the XP machine, but cannot get any access to the internet on the 98 machines which are set the same.

I can ping the DNS IP of the ISP from the servers and XP machine but not from the 98 PCs. I guess this is a major part of the problem but I cannot figure out why this is so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Martin

did u enable the internet connection sharing in win98 machine and configure it properly?

Thanks for the reply. I have not enabled ICS on either Win98 Machine as I thought you only did this if the modem was attatched to the win98 PC, and all other PC's linked to the internet though it..

cbr, you have it right as far as the ICS is concerned.

Is the Win98 machine getting a good IP address from the DHCP server? Fire off an IPCONFIG and check it out. Make sure it gets the right DNS and gateway info as well.

On win98 it's winipcfg. And can you ping any of the machines inside your network?

HI
The win98 machine is getting a correct IP address from the server and the gateway IP has been set. When I Check IPCONFIG the correct IP is shown but there is no IP logged against the Gateway IP even though it shows up as set under the Windows Network IP settings.

Hi
I can ping all of the machine in the network, including the router.

does it work if you set the primary and secondary DNS to your ISP primary and secondary DNS? I am wondering if you have any trouble when you connect the Win98 PC direct to the modem?
