problem with WGA after 1 1/2 years of running xp

Hi,
i have had this xp-sp2 that i purchased from a reputable retailer in november of 2005. it's been working fine, and i've been receiving my updates regularly. recently i received an updated notice about WGA, since it was a big file, and i have dial-up, i declined to accept it. the next week, i turned the pc on, a msg at the task bar says "you may be a victim of software counterfeiting" or "this copy of windows is not genuine" or product id is bad. i ran wga validation, and it says: "geographically banned product id" then it says: "product id is bad". i've heard that people are having problems with WGA sometimes. i like to know what i'm supposed to do?

no.
no joy. microsoft is just passing people around like basketball. from customer service to tech support to piracy reporting, back to promotions dept. i had several emails exchanged with a techy guy. basically same stuff. finally, they want me to send them the cd, my proof of purchase, and a report on how this happened to me. i have my order number from the retailer, the credit card i charged it on, and i might be able to get the charge item from the credit card company, but i don't have a receipt per se from the retailer, since i purchased it online.
but while i'm waiting for this, i had to system restore back to the day before wga update. the sad thing is that even if you have a legit copy of windows, if somebody hacks your prod key, and uses it, you're screwed up. and you have to prove that the copy is yours. that's the problem i have. and when you change your prodkey online, they drop the same wga root kit / spyware on your pc. we're in a lot of trouble. thank god that linux is taking a foothold. free at last.

I used the same thread last week that linney suggested "Problems with Xp Validation: your copy is invalid" - this worked immediately for my customer's computer (remember to use system32 not system23 in the script )
