Problem with validation failure page on form

I have a request form where certain fields are required to be filled in. In the form properties I have set options/confirmation page/url of validation failure to a custom page that tells the user that fields haven't been filled out. When you actually go to the form and fill it out incompletely you don't get the validation failure page but an Internet Explorer (in my case) message box for each incomplete box. This used to work but I'm not sure what has happened. This is the page

Does anyone have any ideas why this would stop working?

Thanks in advance!

HI emcc,

I don't see anything in form properties that would change this.

I tried going to

and got a page cannot be found.

Is it possible you might have inadvertantly changed this page name?

Generally speaking, I prefer the prompts and never use a validation failure page.

Hope I have been of some help,
Micheal

Hi emcc,

This comes straight from your HTML ...

U-Validation-Error-Url="trial_version_error.htm"

This is the URL for the validation failure page you have set in form properties. But, the page doesn't display. That's why I thought maybe you weren't using the accurate page name for your failure page.

Hope I have been of some help,

My sincere apologies, I was half asleep and combined two posts I was working on.

Sorry about that. I don't think I have been that dumb in a while.

Indeed your failure URL does display. I still don't see anything in the HTML that would make this work differently than is has in the past.

Sorry again, sometimes I get in a hurry and don't pay attention to what I am doing.

Hope I have been of some help,
Micheal

Michael:

Thanks for taking the time to look at this with me.

I see that in my html also and I even checked to be sure the file was on the server of our web host and it is.

Could there be some type of conflict between the form properties (where I tell it to send my custom validation error page - trial_version_error.htm)and the form field properties..... just a guess because I can't figure this one out!

Michael:

One more question before I spend too much more time figuring this out....

If I get this to work - is there a way for the user to go back to the form and have the info they did fill out still there because now when you click on return to form it's blank and they have to start over. If there isn't a way to do this then probably letting the prompts pop up is the way to go because all the info stays in the form and they only have to complete the missing fields.

Thanks!

Honestly, I have seen other problems with failure validation pages. I always stick with the prompts. They are crude, but they won't let the form submit without the required fields being filled in.

The return to form link on the default validation is really the equivelant of a History Back button. So if you we're to go with a custom confirmation page, a History back button should take them back to the form as they left it.

Additionally, I think a simple Thank You page is fine, but I many users like seeing their input displayed. You can do a display only or a printable display if needed.

Hope I have been of some help,
Micheal
