Hi Folks

I downloaded the following Oracle 9i patch and aix unzip file, I uncompressed aix zip file although the instructions are not clear as it stated put it in /usr/local/bin directory but I want to unzip the patch within oracle_base directory i.e. /u01/oracle.

I tried to unzip the oracle patch using unzip_aix and received the following message, any idea why?

$ unzip_aix p3501955_9205_AIX64-5L.zip
Archive: p3501955_9205_AIX64-5L.zip
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
unzip: can't find zipfile directory in one of p3501955_9205_AIX64-5L.zip or
p3501955_9205_AIX64-5L.zip.zip, and can't find p3501955_9205_AIX64-5L.zi
p.ZIP, period.

unzip_aix file has been uncompressed and granted with relevant rights i.e. chmod 751 unzip_aix.

Hope one of you can shed some light here.

Thanking you all in advance.

Regards

K

IIRC Oracle for UNIX zips contain a tar file (?)

Can you not unzip it on a Windows box and then ftp the tar to AIX ?

Alex

You need to unzip it using aix unzip file on aix box i.e.

unzip_aix <ORACLE PATCH>.zip

It will not work on windows platform

Interesting - its all changed!

just did a test with a small file (not your 696MB patch) and got the following

/u01 > ./unzip_aix p3042423_8063_AIX64.zip
Archive: p3042423_8063_AIX64.zip
inflating: 3044278/patch.sh
inflating: 3044278/README.txt
inflating: 3044278/32#prsc.o
inflating: 3044278/64#prsc.o
inflating: 3044278/oraus.msb
inflating: 3044278/oraus.msg
/u01 >

To ask a stupid question - you did transfer the files to AIX in Binary mode ?

Alex

Hi Alex

Yes I did and I am now downloading another patch, I think the file may have got corrupted while transferring it from my PC to server so this time I am downloading it to a windows 2000 server and plan to transfer it directly to pSeries server.

Thanks for your help and response.

Katherine
